The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has indicated that a victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC in the 2024 general elections without the Hohoe seat, would be a bitter pill to swallow.

According to him, winning the Hohoe Parliamentary seat would culminate in the NDC attaining the majority in parliament to enable the party's Presidential Candidate, John Mahama to deliver on his manifesto promises, including the 24-Hour economy, and Women Development Bank among others.

He said this when addressing sympathizers of the NDC in Hohoe during the party's campaign launch in the Hohoe Constituency.

“The December 7, 2024, elections, it will not be a sweet victory without the Hohoe seat. The Hohoe seat must be reclaimed. We have to take the seat to enable Hohoe to return to its rightful place, where it belongs, the National Democratic Congress”, he stressed.

Mr. Ablakwa announced that the NDC hopes to win all 18 seats in the Volta Region and is poised to achieve this.

“President Mahama needs a majority in parliament. We don’t want to hear on December 7th that it is a hung parliament, no! Or, it is a slim majority, no! President Mahama needs a massive parliamentary victory, a worthy parliamentary majority. So that he can implement his visions and manifesto pledges. And that is why the Hohoe seat is very very critical”, he stressed.

He, therefore, warned the electorates against voting skirt and blouse, which caused the NDC the Hohoe seat in 2020, where John Peter Amewu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the parliamentary election with a margin of about 5,000 votes.

Mr. expressed optimism about the NDC winning back the Hohoe indicating “the Hohoe seat is coming back home” adding that the opposition party would do all within its powers to wrestle the seat.

He directed Mr. Amewu to begin preparing his handing over notes on his exit from Parliament by midnight on 8th December 2024.

“This year we will not repeat the mistake we made in 2020. We won’t vote skirt and blouse. The message for our Member of Parliament, John Peter Amewu is that he should start preparing his handing over notes.

“Hon. Amewu, himself knows he is an accidental MP. A product of political gerrymandering. 2024, there will be no political gerrymandering“, Mr. Ablakwa said.

He entreated the NDC supporters to widen the voting gap to 80% and ensure the parliamentary candidate, Worlanyo Tsekpo gets an equal percentage of votes in the upcoming general elections.

“This year, we will break the NPP in the Volta Region. The Volta Region shall remain a no-go area [for the NPP]. Because they came to deceive us, they couldn’t do all that they promised to do”, he added.
