Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, Finance Minister.

Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, the Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga in the Northern Region, has called on media owners to ensure fair and adequate compensation for journalists.
He emphasised that better pay would help journalists maintain professionalism and independence in their work.

Speaking at the Northern Regional Ghana Journalists Association Awards ceremony in Tamale on September 14, Dr Amin Adam highlighted the vital role journalists play in informing Ghanaians about government policies and bringing citizens' concerns to the attention of the government.

He stressed that well-compensated journalists are more likely to remain unbiased and dedicated to their responsibilities, ensuring the media remains a reliable bridge between the public and the government.

As the Guest Speaker at the event, Dr Amin Adam reiterated his appeal to media owners, urging them to prioritise the welfare of their employees to enhance the overall quality of journalism in the country.

“Knowing the kind of sacrifices you make in the discharge of your duties, we don’t reward you enough. I have interacted with a number of you and some of the proprietors of radio and TV stations as well as the newspapers and I’m mostly shocked about the conditions of service in which you work.”

“This is why I’m worried that in spite of the role you play to carry the messages of the people to the government and also inform citizens about government policies and programmes, you continue to live in conditions that are not palatable for the role that you play."

“I want to use this opportunity to call the proprietors of our media institutions to take steps to reward you appropriately for the great job you are doing and for the service you providing for our society," he urged.
