A businessman, Ransford Antwi, has filed to contest in the upcoming December 7 Parliamentary elections as an independent candidate in the Sunyani East Constituency of the Bono Region.
After successfully filling his nomination at the Sunyani District Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday, September 10, Mr Antwi expressed optimism that the people of Sunyani East will give him the mandate to change the face of the constituency, citing his track record of living for humanity.
According to the 51-year-old native of Sunyani Area 2, his decision to contest as an independent parliamentary candidate comes amidst incessant calls on him by the constituents to salvage the constituency from the lack of development.
He noted that the constituency has huge potential and should not be left to deteriorate at such an unprecedented level under the current Member of Parliament (MP), Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh.
"I'm not into this for personal gains. I'm a businessman and well pleased with how far the Lord has brought me, but I want to help my people, I have started and I want to complete it," he said.
"I have responded officially to the clarion call of my people today to bring finality to the rumours and propaganda by my opponents that I have rescinded my decision to contest.”
Mr Antwi, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Suncity Radio and Suncity Imperial Lodge and a Director of Space FM, enjoys the massive support of the Council of Brong-Ahafo Association of North America (COBAANA).
The Association at its 2024 Annual Convention in the U.S.A. recently auctioned Ransford Antwi Branded T-shirts to raise funds to support his campaign and help bring development to the people.
He is, however, expected to face stiff competition from the incumbent New Patriotic Party MP, Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh - who is contesting for the 5th consecutive time and Seid Mubarak of the National Democratic Congress.
The NPP has held the Sunyani seat comfortably since 1996, but this year's election appears too close to call, though some residents expect Ransford Antwi to be victorious.
The philanthropist and former manager of music legend, Kojo Antwi, 2018 received a special award from President Akufo-Addo on behalf of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) for his outstanding contribution to the growth of the Ghana Music Industry.
Mr Antwi's ingenuity some years ago led Ghana Blacks Stars to secure its first kit sponsorship from PUMA.
He was accompanied to the EC office by his wife, friends, and other relations who are determined to canvass for votes to ensure victory in the December 7 elections.
