In a remarkable step toward promoting environmental consciousness and sustainability among Ghana’s youth, the MGL/Safari Valley Eco Initiative has been officially launched on Joy FM's Super Morning Show by Ernest Gyekye, Board Chairman of Safari Valley Eco-Park.
This groundbreaking initiative, a collaboration between Multimedia Group Limited and Safari Valley Resort, aims to nurture the next generation of environmental stewards, particularly targeting students from underprivileged schools and Galamsey-ravaged areas across the country.
The Eco Initiative focuses on providing immersive, hands-on environmental education experiences at Safari Valley Resort.
These day tours will allow basic and secondary school students to explore Ghana’s rich biodiversity, participate in conservation activities, and gain a deeper understanding of the country's pressing environmental challenges, such as water pollution, deforestation, and climate change.
A Bold Vision for Sustainability
At the core of the MGL/Safari Valley Eco Initiative is a commitment to fostering a lasting cultural shift toward environmental responsibility.
The program aims to not only enhance students' environmental knowledge but also equip them with critical thinking skills, foster positive attitudes toward conservation, and encourage pro-environmental behaviours.
With a vision to inspire the next generation of eco-champions, the initiative offers a structured learning experience that integrates guided nature walks, interactive workshops, and conservation activities.
“Our goal is to create an eco-conscious society, starting with young minds who will grow to value and protect Ghana's natural heritage,” said Ernest Gyekye during the launch.
He highlighted the crucial role education plays in addressing Ghana’s environmental challenges, particularly illegal mining, water body degradation, and biodiversity loss.
Targeting the Underprivileged and Ensuring Inclusivity
The initiative is designed to reach a broad demographic, with 80% of participants from underprivileged public schools.
By focusing on students from disadvantaged backgrounds, the program ensures inclusivity and equal opportunity, bridging the gap in environmental education access.
Gender parity and accommodation for students with special needs are also central to the initiative’s structure.
In addition to the day tours, the program will be integrated into the school curriculum, providing teachers with preparatory and follow-up materials to reinforce environmental learning.
Community engagement is also a key feature, with plans to establish eco-clubs in participating schools and organise inter-school competitions to maintain student enthusiasm.
A Call to Action for Sustainability
With an ambitious goal to influence national policy and contribute to a sustainable future for Ghana, the MGL/Safari Valley Eco Initiative is more than just an educational program—it’s a movement.
Its success relies on the collaborative efforts of schools, communities, corporate sponsors, and government agencies.
Ernest Gyekye called on stakeholders to support the program, emphasizing that "investing in environmental education today means securing a healthy and prosperous Ghana for future generations."
How to Get Involved
The coordinator of the initiative, Raymond Acquah, encouraged individuals, corporate bodies, and philanthropic groups to get involved in this transformative educational experience.
He explained that MGL and Safari Valley have generously absorbed significant costs to ensure that students from underprivileged backgrounds can benefit from the program.
However, there is still a need for additional support to expand the reach of the initiative.
