Ghanaian gospel musician, Ohemaa Mercy, has said in a recent interview that she had a confirmation from God before divorcing her ex-husband, Isaac Twum-Ampofo.
Ohemaa Mercy, said in the interview on TV3 that in the wake of the challenges she encountered in her marriage, she prayed to God for three months and later she was given the green light to divorce her former husband.
“I remember when I was going through divorce. During COVID-19, I depended solely on God for direction, I had a strong covenant with him. I will go to the mountains to pray for three months and I really wanted to hear what the lord will tell me about what is going on around me. So, when I heard it clearly, I took that bold step. I had the confirmation from God, If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have done it," she noted.
The 'Wobeye Kese' singer also mentioned that the presence of God in her life has been more prominent now than when she was married.
“I give God the glory because I am divorced but this is the time I have seen the hand of God so strong on my life, even more than when I was married,” she said.
She further explained that when she discussed the issue of divorce with her ex-husband, he agreed and urged her to fully dedicate herself to God's work.
“When I spoke to my partner too, he understood that we needed to take a break and pray and see what the Lord will do. I told him, ‘I really want us to take a break and move the Ministry, which I know is your passion for me. Let me run with it, let’s take of the kids and support each other. If I’m going through something, we talk about it. I don’t want to fail God because I feel I’m failing God”, she stated.
This has since generated conversation among social media users who assert that her statement is contrary to the Biblical injunction on divorce: “I hate divorce, says the Lord God of Israel” (Malachi 2:16) and “so they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” (Matthew 19:6).
Ohemaa who held her annual Tehillah Experience on Sunday, September 8, 2024, was married to Isaac Twum Ampofo, who was also her manager while they were married.
Until this interview, she had been silent about the divorce even though it was rumoured among people in the music fraternity.
