Attorney General God Yeboah Dame

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General Godfred Dame has reported that the government has successfully avoided paying judgment debts totalling fifteen trillion Ghana Cedis since he began his tenure in 2017.

Mr Dame pointed out that these legal disputes occurred both domestically and internationally, highlighting the state's growing vulnerability to lawsuits in an increasingly dynamic global environment.

During his address at the Annual Bar Association Conference in Kumasi on Monday, September 9, the Minister of Justice revealed that the government has avoided judgment debts totalling “over GHC15 trillion since I assumed office.”

He added, “The era of dubious and scandalous judgment debts against the state, I can say without any fear of equivocation, is clearly a thing of the past. There has not been a time that the state has been more exposed in international litigation than the era in which we live.”

Mr Dame disclosed that state lawyers have had to travel extensively around the globe to protect the country from arbitration claims.

He noted that the results of these litigations have been “favourable, with little or no cost to the state”.
