President Akufo-Addo has lauded the role of technology in effectively combating corruption in Ghana.
According to him, the introduction of digital platforms for public procurement processes has minimized human intervention and reduced opportunities for corrupt practices.
Speaking at the Annual Ghana Bar Association Conference on September 9 in Kumasi, he said, “These platforms have increased transparency, efficiency and competitiveness in public procurement, ensuring public resources are used judiciously for the benefit of all Ghanaians.”
The President also pointed to a recent 2023 report from the Auditor General, which revealed a notable decrease in financial irregularities within the public sector.
The report showed a reduction of 32%, with financial irregularities dropping from 5.2 billion cedis in the previous year.
President Akufo-Addo also stated that there have been reforms in the legal framework aimed at improving transparency and accountability.
In addition, he pointed out the successful passage of the Right to Information Act, an achievement that was not completed by the previous administration.
“We strengthened the right to information, ensuring that Ghanaians have the tools they need to hold their government accountable.”
“The passage of the Right to Information Act which the preceding administration failed to accomplish, was an important milestone, providing citizens with the power to demand transparency from their leaders,” he said.
