Despite a long-held perception among some Ghanaians especially football lovers of Michael Essien being an “anti-social” person, unaccommodating and snobbish, a United States-based Nigerian claims Michael Essien is very humble and a great character who is open to all people no matter what.
The Nigerian Uber driver who was wheeling Multimedia’s Fire Lady Mavis Amanor on an Uber trip was all praise for Essien when he found out Mavis is a Ghanaian.
He started talking about how he met Essien and fell in love with him.
“It was in Baltimore during Ancellotti’s time when Chelsea visited the US. Essien is the best and a humble guy. Essien put his arm around me when Drogba was feeling too big(to allow us close to him)."
"Essien and Malouda were so friendly asking me questions about me and my family “, said Asangrian from Nigeria.
He said he has been in America for 12 years and seems to be so happy talking about the former Ghanaian international who played for Liberty Professionals, Lyon, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Essien had his great moments with these teams but seems not to be a favourite idol for fans talking about how they are personally related to him.
Essien, just like his best friend Sulley Muntari, most times kept to himself, unlike the likes of Asamoah Gyan who mingled with fans whenever an opportunity availed itself.
The open admiration shows the other side of Essien, who is said to be a serious joker when with the right people.
Bison, as he is called, currently coaches in Denmark and is highly tipped to become a great coach by experts.
