The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has vowed to enhance the Police Service’s capacity to tackle crime in the country, announcing that there are plans to install 50,000 CCTVs throughout the country.
He said the plan is to install CCTV cameras on every street nationwide to enable thorough surveillance and tracking of criminal activities.
Addressing attendees at the commissioning of the Central East Police Headquarters in Kasoa, Dr Bawumia stated that this initiative is intended to substantially lower crime rates throughout the country.
“We are bringing in 50,000 CCTV cameras that we are going to install in every region, in every district, and that would allow the police to see what is going on on every street so that we can catch the criminals very quickly. So, Ghana would be very different by the grace of God, and so we are asking for your support for us to do this.”
The Vice President stated that the NPP government, led by Nana Akufo-Addo, has provided more support to the Ghana Police Service than any previous administration.
Dr Bawumia said that the NPP government has acquired more vehicles, additional uniforms, and even three helicopters for the police, marking the first time such equipment has been provided.
“We have increased the size of the police force by about 40%, and we want to do more,” he added.
