Two out of six individuals have appeared before an Adentan Circuit Court for allegedly stealing 279 cartons of Analgin injections valued at GH¢223,200.
The accused, Stanley Smith Mensah, also known as Moni, and Daniel Nyarko, also known as Benzima, both electricians, have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and two counts of stealing.
They have pleaded not guilty. A bench warrant has been issued for Ernest Abrah, who failed to appear in court.
Presiding Judge Angela Attachie granted bail to Mensah and Nyarko in the sum of GH¢223,200, with two sureties each, justified by landed property.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, stated that the complainant, Collins Donkor, is the warehouse manager at Habmay Pharmacy Limited, located at Lakeside Community 5 in Tema. Abrah, the first accused, was a security guard at the warehouse.
Mensah and Nyarko, along with other accused individuals - Prince, also known as Abua, Charles, and Ibrahim Sita, who are all currently at large - were casual workers hired to load and unload pharmaceutical products at the warehouse.
On September 11, 2023, the complainant discovered that 196 boxes of Analgin injections, valued at GH¢156,800, were missing.
On October 23, 2023, a further 83 cartons, valued at GH¢66,400, were found to be missing, bringing the total value of stolen injections to GH¢223,200.
The warehouse manager, alarmed by the losses, reviewed CCTV footage from the premises.
The footage revealed that Abrah and a taxi driver, a witness in the case, were seen transporting boxes of Analgin injections from the warehouse to an unknown location.
The matter was reported to the Lakeside Police, leading to the arrest of Abrah on October 27, 2023. During interrogation, Abrah implicated Mensah, Nyarko, Prince, and Charles as his accomplices.
The prosecution stated that investigations revealed the accused, along with two others still at large, conspired in September and October 2023 to steal 279 cartons of Analgin injections from the warehouse and sell them to Ibrahim Sita, who is also at large.
