Residents of Koforidua over the period have raised concerns about the frequent outages on the principal Streets of the city despite numerous efforts by managers of the city to fix street lights.
The poor street lighting system and the frequent darkness on the streets have led to a number of robbery attacks on the Kassadjan road and the Koforidua Technical University area, where students are mostly the victims.
Addressing the Media in Koforidua as part of his annual media engagement, Member of Parliament for the New Juaben South Constituency and Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Michael Okyere Baafi hinted that, his office has supplies quite a number of street lights in the municipal.
However, the lights go off often and shortly after installing same.
He adds that a thorough assessment of the situation by engineers revealed outmoded underground cables leading to frequent breaks in the power supply.
Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi said, plans are underway to change the entire underground cables supplying power to the street lights on the principal Streets of Koforidua.
He also highlighted the New Patriotic Party's achievements in the constituency.
According to the New Juaben South Member of Parliament, Koforidua has benefited from an unprecedented 42 kilometers of good roads including asphalt on the principal streets of Koforidua in less than 8 years of the New Patriotic Party.
He said most community roads have seen some improvement while others are about seeing the same level of improvement.
He indicated that the deplorable Nyamekrom road will be completed before the 2024 election. Asking residents to exercise patients.
On health, Mr Okyere Baafi mentioned retooling the Koforidua Central Hospital, the Poly Clinic and the KTU Clinic.
He said New clinics and health centers have also been constructed closer to far to-reach areas in the Municipality to make health care accessible.
"We have given scholarships to so many people from Koforidua, both local scholarships and international scholarships. We want to build the human resources of Koforidua to ensure that, in the New future, Koforidua people will be at the commanding heights in most spheres of the economy. If there is any tool in changing the world, I think education is the tool' The New Juaben South MP asserts
He opined that several schools including the Anglican school in Betom among others are being reconstructed to befit their status in the heart of Koforidua.
He mentioned the numerous police posts and police stations under construction within the constituency and those in full operation as a testament of his commitment to the security of his people.
"We have disbursed over 1 million Ghana cedis under the MPs Trade fund to market women and traders in the Municipality, an interest-free loan to boost the local economy. Even though over 90% of the beneficiaries haven't pay their loans, we continue to serve those in need," Okyere Baafi said.
He also assured residents of his commitment to the progress of the Koforidua.
"If there has been any MP who prioritize the development of Koforidua, then I'm the one. I'm a Koforidua boy! Koforidua is my hometown, born here, I will die here. So I will go all out to make Koforidua better than I met it."
