The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare, has dismissed the notion that the responsibility for ensuring peace and the outcome of elections rests solely on the EC Chairperson.
His statement comes in response to ongoing public debates about the Commission's role in maintaining electoral integrity and securing a peaceful election in the December 2024 general elections.
Addressing journalists in Accra on Monday, September 2, Dr. Asare emphasised that the success of the electoral process is a collective effort and should not be placed entirely on one individual.

He urged the public to disregard claims, including those made by notable figures, that suggest the EC Chairperson is solely accountable for the peaceful conduct of elections.
Dr. Asare further explained that the EC, as an institution, operates with a team of professionals dedicated to upholding the credibility of elections, and this responsibility is shared across the organisation.
He called on all stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies, and the general public, to collaborate in ensuring a fair and peaceful election.
“The suggestion that the peace and the outcome of the election are hinged on the chairperson of the EC is completely untrue," he said, adding “We urge the public to ignore statements even from prominent citizens that suggest that achieving peaceful elections in 2024 is somehow in the bosom of the Chairperson of the EC” .
Dr. Bossman Asare also dismissed accusations that the Electoral Commission is manipulating the voter register to favour a particular political party.
"The EC has no intention of bloating the register to give any political party an advantage over the other," he added.
