The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Hydrological Authority has told Parliament that Ghana needs a colossal $5 billion to end the flooding menace in the country.
Dr John Kissi explained without this financial commitment, many parts of the country will still experience floods.
Several parts of the country have been experiencing heavy and flash flooding whenever it rains, destroying properties and taking lives sometimes.
But answering questions before the Assurances Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, August 28, Mr Kissi said the proposed $5 billion would be directed towards comprehensive flood risk management strategies across all regions of Ghana, aiming to mitigate the impact of flooding and safeguard communities.

“The works that we have done looking at the flood risk challenges across the country, we estimate that we need about 5 billion dollars to address comprehensively the flood risk challenge that we have,” he said.
According to him, in 2023 under the national flood control programme, they received about 92 million cedis to undertake flood mitigation works across the country but that was insufficient.
