The President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV has expressed worry at the increasing number of chieftaincy disputes in his jurisdiction.
According to him, the development has the tendency to mar the peace in the affected area if not tackled heads on.
He, therefore, called on traditional councils to endeavor to resolve minor chieftaincy issues that may lead chieftaincy disputes at early stages to avert conflicts.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Tongu Chiefs Union held at Dorfor-Juapong, in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.
Togbe Tepre Hodo IV entreated leadership of the Union, which is an amalgamation of 13 traditional areas, to harness their energies towards curbing chieftaincy conflicts in the area.
He emphasized the importance of giving a fair hearing to disputing factions and hence resolving disputes amicably to maintain peace and harmony in the affected areas.
“The formation of this union is a crucial step towards ensuring that minor chieftaincy issues are resolved within the Tongu communities. It is essential for the unity and progress of our people,” he stated.
He expressed optimism that the Tongu Chiefs Union would provide a valuable framework for strengthening the chieftaincy institution in the Tongu area.
The President of the Tongu Chiefs Union, Togbega Kadzi Zogah II pledged his commitment to promoting peace and unity among the chiefs.
He highlighted the union’s primary objective of harnessing development in the Tongu enclave and building strong relationships between the chiefs and their subjects.
“Our main goal is to see the development of our towns and to foster good relationships among our people.” Togbega Kadzi Zogah II said.
