Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Okyenhene, is set to deliver a keynote address at the inaugural Traditional Leadership and Sustainable Development Forum at the University of Bradford, UK, on September 12.
This high-profile event will bring together notable figures, including university leadership, academics, students, and business leaders, to discuss the vital role of traditional leaders in Africa's sustainable development.
The invitation to the Okyenhene was extended by Professor Richard Nyuur, Head of International Business, Marketing, and Strategy at the University of Bradford School of Management, which ranks among the top 25 business schools in Europe.
The school is renowned for producing start-up companies and holds the prestigious “triple crown of accreditation,” highlighting its commitment to nurturing responsible global leaders.
In his keynote address, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin is expected to discuss the critical connection between leadership and sustainable development, particularly focusing on the detrimental impact of corruption.
Reflecting on a speech delivered at the University of Ghana, he previously condemned corrupt politicians, stating, “If you dip your hands in the public till and expunge from it money that would build hospitals and schools, pay teachers well, build bridges…to deny a child malaria treatment, you are not successful. Future generations will not build monuments in your name.”
The Okyenhene, known for his insightful perspectives on leadership, will likely address global challenges such as climate change and disinformation, stressing the need for strong leadership to combat these issues.
Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin has consistently called for decisive action from world leaders to safeguard the planet and promote sustainable development.
This event marks the second time in less than a year that the Okyenhene has been invited by Western academia to speak on pressing global issues.
In October 2023, he spoke at two universities in Boston, USA, urging global leaders to act against climate change.
As a special guest of honour for the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture inauguration, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin will symbolise the African diasporan community in the UK, using his global appeal and oratory skills to rally support for the event.
The Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture is expected to feature over 1,000 new performances and events, making it a landmark year for the city.
