The Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has responded to former President John Dramani Mahama's recent promise to reset Ghana.
Mr Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had urged voters to support him in the upcoming elections, arguing that Ghana is in dire need of a fresh start to address its current challenges.
At the NDC’s manifesto launch, Mr Mahama painted a bleak picture of the nation's situation, stating, "Ghana is bleeding, and its soul is crying for change."
He promised to implement drastic measures to overhaul the country’s governance if elected.
However, in a media interaction on Sunday, August 25, Dr Bawumia dismissed his opponent's proposal for a reset.
According to him, instead of a reset what Ghana truly needs is an upgrade.
"I represent the future. Ghana needs an upgrade, not a reset," he said
He unveiled his vision for the country, highlighting 14 key commitments that he plans to undertake if elected in the 2024 elections.
These include creating jobs, implementing comprehensive tax reforms, and transforming Ghana into a world-class digital economy.
His proposed initiatives also cover reducing the cost of living, expanding public infrastructure, enhancing healthcare access, supporting affirmative action for women and girls, and improving educational opportunities for all.
Additionally, he vowed to ensure good governance, protect the nation’s borders, and maintain neighbourhood safety.
