Three construction workers have perished after a building they were working on collapsed at Asempa Down, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.
A survivor on site reported that a carpenter and two other workers were trapped under the debris from the collapse.
The carpenter was killed instantly, while the other two succumbed to their injuries during evacuation to the hospital.
The collapse occurred as the workers were pouring concrete for the first floor of the multi-storey building.
A survivor, Patrick Sarfo recounted the incident. “I was standing by the machine watching those working on the building. Then I noticed that the building was gradually coming down, and I pushed one of my brothers closer to me aside and I also managed to jump.”
“I noticed that the building was not strong from the foundation, so I prompted the boys to work on the building with a weak foundation. Passers-by helped us to remove the people from the rubble.”
