The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, says the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) manifesto addressed a wide range of issues from "from cradle to grave.”
According to him, the manifesto tackled critical areas including child mortality, educational opportunities, and human capacity development essential for addressing 21st-century challenges.
Speaking on JoyNews’ NewsFile on August 24, he stressed that it addressed challenges “all the way through to employment creation, care for the aged, how we are going to sustain and expand our economy which is rebounding.
"There is no denying that we have had a very challenging economic situation in the period between 2020 and 2024. These are facts.”
According to Mr Mercer, the NPP government was not able to achieve all the commitments they had made due to certain factors.
He acknowledged that factors like the COVID-19 pandemic affected the government's ability to fulfill its commitments.
“When Akufo-Addo came into power in 2016, we knew there was a challenge in the banking sector but did we know the extent? There was an attempt to resolve it through the liquidity that Mr Mahama had provided through the Bank of Ghana to banks. We knew there was energy sector issues, but did we know the extent?”
“In 2020 we were hit by a pandemic that affected every single country in the world. People argue that the impact on Ghana is different from other countries. Why not? Ivory Coast did not have any banking or energy sector crisis to deal with. We had underling conditions so the impact of Covid on our country will be different from other countries.”
