Nine Nigerian cyclists embarked on a two-day ride from Lagos to Accra to raise awareness and show support for autism.
The riders began their journey on Tuesday and arrived at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on Thursday evening.
They were warmly welcomed with cheers and encouraging messages after their journey of over 40 hours.
“We recognise the tenacity and strength it takes to complete such a journey, and we appreciate your support for autism and Play with Stephen,” said Stephen Onaivi, the Founder of the Play with Stephen Foundation.
“This weekend, we encourage everyone to continue supporting autism awareness. We assure you of a weekend filled with exciting activities, networking, and golf to further raise awareness.”
Eziafakaku Nwokolo, the leader of the cyclists and mother of a daughter with autism, shared her personal experience.
"I have a 23-year-old daughter. When she was two going on to three, I noticed that while she was growing physically, her social and adaptive skills were not progressing like those of the older and younger children, which caused me concern.
"Three years ago, I decided to spread the message about autism through cycling, leading to the creation of what we now call 'Ride for Autism'."
