A moving car was destroyed by fire at Labone yesterday after the driver fell asleep behind the wheel.
The incident occurred when the vehicle, numbered GM 708-21, crashed into an electricity pole.
Upon regaining consciousness, the driver noticed the car was on fire as he attempted to continue his journey.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were called to the scene but the ineffectiveness in responding to the distress call caused the car to burst into flames.
The personnel, however, managed to extinguish the flames.
Despite their efforts, the vehicle was reduced to ashes by the time the fire was brought under control.
The driver’s lapse in attention was identified as the cause of the accident and subsequent fire.
