The Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of frequently initiating projects without securing the necessary funding.

Adolf Ali criticised Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the NPP's flagbearer, for what he described as a "penchant for cutting sods" without following through on these projects.

Speaking during a visit to the Lamashegu exhibition centre as part of his tour of voter exhibition centres in the region, he contrasted the leadership of former President John Mahama with that of Dr Bawumia.

He said, "Ghanaians can trust John Mahama to deliver on his promises; the same cannot be said about Dr Bawumia."

Mr Ali pointed out that former President Mahama has a track record of fulfilling his commitments, stressing that "one can never tag former President Mahama as a liar."

He further criticised Dr Bawumia's leadership by questioning the status of key NPP initiatives: "One District, One Factory—where are the factories in all the districts? One Village, One Dam—where are the dams?

"One million for every constituency, yet no constituency in the country has received any dollar. Unless Dr. Bawumia can come out to tell us that he has sent one dollar to any constituency."

Looking ahead to the upcoming elections, Mr Ali expressed confidence that the NDC will reclaim all the seats it lost in previous elections.

"We are targeting every seat in the region; the least will be 14. And I know the entire North - I mean Upper West, Upper East, Savannah, Northern, and North East - we are all working very hard to ensure that John Mahama gets the best result ever."

Mr Ali also called for peaceful elections, stressing that the NDC is committed to maintaining peace.

"We have continuously told our people we are for peace; however, in our quest for peace, if somebody thinks that war is the best, we are war-ready also," he said.

He assured that the NDC would not initiate any trouble at polling centres but would not back down if provoked.

"We will not start any trouble, we will not even pray for that to happen, but should anybody think elections are about violence and for that matter they will use violence to win the election, then it will be another election, not this 2024 election," Mr Ali concluded.
