Veteran Ghanaian gospel singer, Apostle Lenny Akpadie, has said in a recent interview that it is wrong for Christians to sing secular songs.
In an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime he intimated that since Jesus is the central point of Christianity, any other that departs from him, is not Christian.
"If you are a Christian and you sing secular music, have you strayed?" The host asked.
In his response, Apostle Akpadie said, "You have strayed big time. The standard is set by God, and He says there's no union between light and darkness."
He also has questioned the idea of gospel musicians permitting secular artistes to write songs for them.
He considers it a wrong decision and defilement, claiming that secular musicians do not have the spiritual support to write spirit-filled songs compared to gospel ministers.
Therefore, he will never give a chance to any artiste to write his songs since he is guided by the Holy Spirit.
"Those gospel musicians missed it. You can't write me a song; where is the Holy Spirit. You see, it's a defilement. The Holy Ghost is our teacher, and I receive songs from the Holy Ghost," he told Roselyn Felli on Tuesday.
For him, the messenger is as important as the message, and so gospel ministers should deliver what is within them because the lyrics of the song define their beliefs.
Some popular secular musicians who have written songs for gospel artists include Kuami Eugene and Kwabena Kwabena.
