Ghana Premier League clubs are in dire need of a tax rebate, according to Nsoatreman General Manager, Eric Alagidede.
His comments follow various promises made by political parties for the sports sector ahead of the national elections.
The New Patriotic Party’s Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has promised to provide buses for each Premier League club if elected President during his manifesto launch.
Meanwhile, John Mahama, the leader of the National Democratic Congress, also pledged that his government will pay stipends to players in the top-flight.
“I don’t think there is a Premier League club without a bus. These are not the immediate needs of clubs in Ghana if you ask me,” Eric told GHOne.
“We have consistently, government after government, asked for tax rebate for clearing of sports goods.
“I went to pick [Nsoatreman jerseys] at the airport and I was asked to pay nine thousand cedis in terms of taxes. These are things we expect people who are with the Vice President and have knowledge about sports to be advising him and other people who seek to take over power.”
The NDC is expected to unveil their manifesto on Saturday, August 24.
The 2024 elections are scheduled for December 7, 2024.
