The Amasaman Police Command has commenced investigation into an alleged murder near Koans Estate in Satellite, Kuntunse.
This was after General Constable Smith Gyekyi surrendered to the Amasaman Police Command and was arrested for the alleged murder of Stanley Ahadzi.
His pistol has been retained for investigations.
On August 18, 2024, at around 0400 hours, the Police Control Room received a report that a male adult had been shot dead at the frontage of Koans Estate in Satellite, Kuntunse.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DCOP) Adamu Muniru, the Adjen Kotoku Crime Officer, and Assistant Superintendent of Police Agnes Aboagye, the Night Monitoring Officer, arrived at the scene with investigator D/PW. Inspector Leticia Asiedu.
They found a 25-year-old male adult lying dead in a supine position, his body covered in blood.
According to the team, spot investigations revealed that General Constable Gyekyi of the Polices' International Relations Directorate was driving a Daewoo Matiz private car with the registration number GW 6459-21 that was being utilized commercially.
They said that at about 0300 hours, the suspect transported a witness, Esther Owusuwaa, from Ablekuma Joma to the Koans Estate area of Satellite, Kuntunse.
The Police said the witness lost direction and contacted Ahadzi to meet them at Koans Estate gate.
They said that when Ahadzi arrived and there was a misunderstanding about the fare charged, Gyekyi became agitated and shot the victim with his sidearm without provocation.
DCOP Mr. Arhin Kwesi Annor, Regional Commander, and Mr. Nana Kwaku Duah, Assistant Commissioner of Police, attended the scene and issued instructions.
The Regional Crime Scene Team, commanded by Ishaku James, processed the site, and Ahadzi's body was sent to the Police Hospital Morgue for preservation pending the autopsy.
Meanwhile, DCOP Arhin and his team are visiting Ahadzi's family in Dome to express their condolences, while witnesses provide a statement.
