The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has unveiled ambitious plans to develop the Cape Coast Airport and revamp Ghana's aviation sector if elected president in the December polls.
Speaking at the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, he announced that a $2 billion fund has been secured from Korean investors to kickstart the development of the Cape Coast Airport.
Dr Bawumia stated the significance of expanding public infrastructure, outlining his vision to transform Ghana’s aviation industry and drive economic growth.
In addition to the Cape Coast project, he pledged to facilitate the establishment of a private-sector-led Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Tamale Airport, positioning it as a key hub for aviation cargo, horticultural goods, and logistics.
Dr Bawumia also committed to building a new airport in the Upper East Region, further underscoring his dedication to enhancing the country’s aviation infrastructure.
“Our plan includes the development of the Cape Coast Airport, funded by the $2 billion Korean facility, the establishment of an MRO facility at Tamale Airport to make it a cargo and logistics hub, and the construction of a new airport in the Upper East Region,” Dr Bawumia stated, promising to drive Ghana’s aviation sector forward.
