The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has criticised the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama, for avoiding a presidential debate ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Dr Bawumia says the NPP's strong track record in various sectors, suggesting that this is the reason Mr Mahama is reluctant to participate in a debate.
He pointed out that Mahama, with his experience as a former president and his understanding of history, is well aware of the NPP’s notable accomplishments, which may be influencing his decision to avoid a debate.
“It is crystal clear that from the data we have given that our overall performance and track record are superior to that of my opponent and his party. In virtually every sector, we are superior. But I believe as a former president and proud student of history, he knows that and that’s one part of the reasons why he’s avoiding a debate.”
He said this during the NPP's manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
The NDC has already advised the Vice President to rather meet the members of the media to answer pertinent questions first if he indeed seeks to argue with the NDC leader.
But Dr Bawumia believes Mr Mahama might lack the necessary courage and confidence to present his ideas and plans alongside his own.
“Another part of course is about the courage and confidence to put what he intends to do differently this time around with the power he seeks side by side with the vision I have for Ghana and the clear road map to getting the work done."
"That is the choice we are presenting to you the Ghanaian voter on December 7.”
