Frank Dzikunu, also known as Angel FD, has received a significant honour with the nomination of his short film, 'Kindness Right Back at You', at the upcoming Lagos International Festival of Animation (LIFANIMA).
The festival, which is one of the premier animation events in Africa, will take place on October 29, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria, the heart of Nollywood—one of the world’s largest film industries.
LIFANIMA, recognized for its dedication to promoting animation across the African continent, serves as a crucial platform for emerging animators, visual effects artists, and industry stakeholders. The festival draws the attention of investors, producers, and public and private sector representatives, making it a vital networking event for Africa's growing animation community.
Frank Dzikunu’s film, ‘Kindness Right Back at You’, tells the story of Mawuli, a young university graduate in Accra, Ghana, who struggles to find employment after years of searching. On the day of an important job interview, Mawuli's integrity is put to the test when he finds a wealthy businessman's briefcase at a bus stop.
Despite the potential risk to his own career prospects, Mawuli returns the briefcase, only to discover that the businessman is part of the interview panel. His honesty and moral character ultimately earn him the job, underscoring the film’s central theme: that kindness and integrity can lead to unexpected opportunities.
Frank Dzikunu, the film’s director, is a promising figure in the animation industry. As the founder of Angel FD Animation and a student at the University of Cape Coast, where he is pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science, Frank has shown a remarkable ability to balance his academic pursuits with his passion for animation. His journey into animation began at the age of 19 during his time at Bompeh Senior High Technical School.
Following his secondary education, he worked as a foreman at Wangkang Ceramic Company Ltd for three years, during which time he created his first notable work, ‘The Dance, Most Original’, a short animation set to the music of Stonebwoy.
Since then, Frank has continued to create impactful animations, including works focused on raising awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic and inspiring altruism. His dedication to his craft has earned him recognition both locally and internationally, including a first runner-up position at the AMAA Startimes Short Film Festival in 2022.
As he continues to integrate his faith into his creative work, Frank’s latest film, ‘Kindness Right Back At You’, stands as a testament to his belief in the power of kindness and ethical behavior.
The nomination of his film at LIFANIMA is not only a personal achievement but also a significant moment for African animation, highlighting the continent’s growing talent and potential in the global film industry.
The inclusion of ‘Kindness Right Back at You’ in LIFANIMA 2024 is a reflection of the festival’s commitment to showcasing diverse and powerful stories from across Africa.
For Frank Dzikunu, it is a well-deserved recognition of his talent and hard work, marking another milestone in his already impressive career.
