The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, believes Samartex have the quality to deliver a strong performance in the CAF Champions League and elevate Ghana’s reputation.
The Ghana Premier League champions are set to face Cameroon’s Victoria United this coming weekend in the first leg of the preliminary round of the Champions League.
Kurt Okraku visited the team’s training ground in Accra on Tuesday to convey a goodwill message before they depart for Cameroon for the game.
During the visit, the GFA President encouraged Samartex to emulate Medeama and Dreams FC, who reached the group stages of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, respectively.
"Your colleagues have done it just a few months ago. It's your turn to go the extra mile to put Ghana back on the map as far as Confederation of African Football Inter-club competitions go.
“I have no doubt that there's quality in this team. You are true champions and worthy representatives of our country in Africa.
“You won the Ghana Premier League on merit. I have absolute trust in the technical team to guide all of you in this adventure."
FC Samartex will take on Victoria United on Sunday, August 18, with the reverse fixture scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium the following weekend.
