George Clooney has expressed his frustration with Quentin Tarantino as he claimed the Hollywood director had said he was "not a movie star".
The 63-year-old US actor was asked by GQ if he should let the Reservoir Dogs filmmaker, 61, know he's available for casting, but said he was a "little irritated" with him.
"Quentin said some shit about me recently," Clooney told the magazine in a joint interview with Brad Pitt.
Clooney said: "He [Tarantino] did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about you [Pitt], and somebody else, and then this guy goes, 'Well, what about George?'
"He goes, 'he's not a movie star'. And then he literally said something like, 'Name me a movie since the millennium'. And I was like, 'Since the millennium? That's kind of my whole f****** career'."
It's not clear what interview Clooney is referring to, but Tarantino has said in the past that actors in Marvel superhero films are "not movie stars".
After Pitt laughed, Clooney added: "So now I'm like, all right, dude, f*** off. I don't mind giving him shit. He gave me s%^t.
"But no, look, we're really lucky we got to work with these great directors. Director and screenplay is what keeps you alive.
"And I learned that after doing some really bad films. You can't make a good film out of a bad script. You can't do it. You can make a bad film out of a good script. You can f*** it up."
Clooney had his first significant big screen part when he starred opposite Tarantino in 1996 cult vampire film From Dusk Till Dawn, directed by Robert Rodriguez.
Tarantino directed an episode of the TV series ER featuring Clooney.
Also as a director, Tarantino worked with Pitt on the movies Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood and Inglourious Basterds.
Clooney and Pitt are set to star opposite each other in Wolfs, about fixers forced to work together.
