The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, says Ghanaians have witnessed nothing less than the collapse of the economy over the past eight years.
According to him, the hopes of the youth have been crushed since the current governing party assumed office.
Speaking at the launch of the NDC Youth Manifesto on Monday, August 12, Mr Kwetey noted that never in the history of the country have so many young people wanted to flee in such numbers as has been witnessed in the last eight years.
“It’s sad that this country on the verge of 2009 when the NDC came into office, we had young people who were trooping back to this country… because they saw the hope of a country that was again looking towards building back.
“But unfortunately, over the last eight years, we have seen nothing short of the collapse of the economy of this country and the loss of hope and despair of our young people,” he said.
The NDC General Secretary said that the policies to be unveiled by former President John Mahama would begin to restore hope.
However, he emphasised that the hope does not lie solely in the policies themselves, noting that anyone can have policies.
“Anybody at all can have the policies. Over the last eight years, we have seen policies that have been unveiled. How many of you remember NABCO? What has happened to that,” Mr Kwetey questioned.
He continued; “Because it was nothing but a scam and 419 policy, it was a policy designed just for votes. The difference between us and them is that we think about policy first for progress before votes,” the NDC General Secretary added.
