The Chiefs and people of Ga Mashie in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday poured onto the streets of Accra’s native suburb, James Town to celebrate this year’s Homowo festival.
The occasion which marks the people's endurance over hunger, attracted people from far and near and witnessed a spectacular display of Ga culture.
The traditional corn meal, ‘’kpokpoi”, was sprinkled by Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, following other rituals by the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayibonte near the Ussher Fort in James Town, as visitors and onlookers filled almost every corner of the community.
The lead performers were accompanied by sub-chiefs and elders amid the firing of musketry.
Homowo, translated as 'hooting at hunger', and the symbolic sprinkling of 'kpokpoi' denotes a season of abundance.
Photojournalist David Andoh was among the crowds and captured some of the beautiful scenes on the occasion.
