Ghanaian sprinter Abdul-Rasheed Saminu says he’s pleased to have raced in the 100m event at the 2024 Olympic Games.
The 22-year-old made the semifinal of the sprint event on Saturday after finishing third in his heat event.
However, the Ghanaian couldn’t advance to the final of the race after coming seventh in the semifinal. He finished with a time of 10.05 seconds not enough to earn him a spot in the medal zone.
Speaking after his semifinal event, Saminu acknowledged the importance of the stage in his development.
“This semi-final is a great experience for me. I'm proud to represent Ghana,” said Saminu.
“This is a huge experience running against the big guys. This gave me all the experience I need for the next chapter.”
He also added that a poor start accounted for his seventh-place finish.
“I think, from the set position, on your marks, I was calm. When he said ‘set,’ I then saw my hands shaking. I was like, ‘Yeah, he's in again," Saminu recounted.
“I didn't get the quick start that I wanted, but I executed all my efforts and came seventh.”
The youngster will now turn his attention to helping Ghana’s team in the 4x100m meter.
