Jamaican's bemedaled Olympian, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce pulled out of the women’s 100-metre semifinal at the Paris Olympics.

The 37-year-old's lane was unexpectedly left empty when her competitors lined up for the event.

Fraser-Pryce, long the standard-bearer for the event after winning Olympic gold in 2008 and 2012, bronze in 2016 and silver in 2021, did not start the race, a dropout that was not revealed publicly until her competitors stepped up to their starting blocks.

Reports suggest she might have suffered a hamstring injury during warm-up and its severity is unknown.

Fraser-Pryce who is competing in her final Olympics, becomes the second Jamaica medal hopeful to have pulled out of the event after Shericka Jackson also withdrew on the eve of the track and field events at the Olympics.
