Another plaintiff, Emmanuel Felix Mantey has filed a lawsuit challenging the appointment of COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno to this position on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
The appointment, according to a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the presidency, was made following the advice of the Police Council during its meeting on July 17, 2024.
The Council acknowledged COP Yohuno’s exceptional credentials and dedication to duty.
In a writ filed at the High Court on Thursday, August 1, Felix Mantey is seeking a court order to prohibit COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno from acting or purporting to act in the role of Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.
The plaintiff is also requesting the court to restrain the Attorney General and the Police Council from taking any further actions in support of the appointment of COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
Emmanuel Felix Mantey is seeking an “Order of judicial review for the following reliefs: a. An order of prohibition restraining COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno from acting or purporting to act in the role of Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.”
“An order of prohibition restraining the Respondents from carrying out any actions in furtherance of the appointment of COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno as ‘Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.”
The first suit
On July 30, a private legal practitioner Justice Abdulai filed a similar suit against the Attorney General and the Police Council over the appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
Justice Abdulai argues that the appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno is unconstitutional.
