Kenpong Football Academy, based in Winneba has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sonderjyske Football Club, a Danish Superliga team.
The agreement, finalised on Tuesday, aims to facilitate the development and transfer of Kenpong Academy’s players to Sonderjyske and its affiliates.
This two-year agreement follows closely on the heels of another MOU signed a few months ago with Bastia Football Club in France.
Kenpong Academy focuses on training and developing young players from Ghana and across Africa, while Sonderjyske is keen on scouting and recruiting top talent from the academy.
To ensure the partnership thrives, both parties have agreed that Sonderjyske will host a 25-man team from Kenpong Academy annually. This team will travel to Denmark for one month of training and matches.
Kennedy Agyepong, the businessman behind Kenpong Academy, signed the contract on behalf of his academy.
He believes the MOU will be mutually beneficial, enhancing the quality of talent produced by the academy.
“I am thrilled about Sonderjyske’s decision to partner with my academy. This agreement is the result of several trips to Europe, including Denmark, to find well-grounded partners for Kenpong Academy,” said Agyepong, popularly known as Kenpong.
During one of his visits to Denmark two months ago, Agyepong arranged a meeting between the management of Sonderjyske and President Akufo Addo, who was also visiting Denmark at the time.
The emphasised Ghana's abundant football talent and expressed his enthusiasm for Kenpong’s efforts to support the youth. He pledged his support for foreign investment in Ghanaian football and encouraged Sonderjyske to partner with Kenpong Academy.
This encouragement has now materialised into a formal agreement.
Officials from Sonderjyske also visited Ghana to evaluate the Kenpong Academy. Impressed by the academy’s facilities and potential, they agreed to the MOU.
The partnership marks a significant step in Kenpong Academy’s mission to develop young football talent and provides a promising opportunity for its players to gain international exposure and experience.
