NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Pru East Constituency, Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, is pledging to improve the local economy through education.
According to him, the attainment of literate constituents will enable them to tap into opportunities created by the central government.
NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Emmanuel Kwaku Boam explains the need to change the fortunes of the local economy through education.
“We are bedeviled with so many issues, the cause of everything is poverty. Whatever our challenges as a community is as a result of lack of what can make us self-reliant. The only way we can become independent and break out of poverty is education”, he said.
He believes education in ICT would help drive the improvement of education in the constituency.
According to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, the Pru East District has a population of 101,545, with 51,087 males and 50,458 females.
Though farming remains the mainstay of the local economy, little economic activity happens in the area.
In 2010, it was reported 18,083 persons aged above three years are identified to have attended school.
As part of the candidate’s vision to transform the local economy, there are proposals for the promotion of technical and vocational education to increase employability.
Mr. Boam in ensuring the improvement of ICT education has presented eighteen desktop computers to Yeji Senior High School.
“We cannot take out ICT education when we want to develop. The world is ICT-dominated now so if you get the opportunity to visit the laboratory take your lessons seriously”, he added.
The Pru East Constituency is currently held by the National Democratic Congress.
In 2020, NDC’s John Dramani Mahama won the Presidential election in the constituency by 69 percent against NPPs 29 percent.
The NDC candidate is working towards increasing the party’s fortunes in the constituency.
