The Ghana Police Service has arrested five individuals in connection with a shooting incident near Nsawam in the Eastern Region, resulting in the death of one person and injury to a police officer.
The incident occurred when police officers from the Eastern South Regional Police Headquarters, accompanied by a complainant, Daniel Dosu, were ambushed by an unknown assailant while en route to make an arrest in Okanta.
During the ambush, Daniel Dosu sustained a gunshot wound to the forehead. Both he and the injured police officer were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, but Dosu was pronounced dead upon arrival.
An intelligence-led operation after the attack led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Daniel Quaye, who was later identified as one of the individuals the deceased complainant was guiding the police to apprehend.
Subsequent police investigations resulted in the arrest of four additional suspects: Anum Joseph, Joshua Aboagye, Kwesi Acquaye, and Acquaye Samuel on Tuesday, July 30.
The weapon used by Daniel Quaye was also recovered.
The deceased's body has been placed in the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the injured police officer has been treated and discharged.
Daniel Quaye and the four other suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
