The food battle between Ghana and Nigeria seems to be unending, as both countries always fight to prove they are the best when it comes to food.
But this time, Best Western Plus Accra Beach Hotel, one of Ghana’s best hotels, has changed the narrative by deciding to team both countries together in cooking dishes together with shared creativity.
Using two renowned food influencers from Ghana and Nigeria, Sweet Adjeley and Ify Mogekwu, who have been cooking for 7 and 8 years, respectively, the hotel displayed an inspiring culinary unity between both countries.
The culinary experts showcased their passion for African cuisine and cultural exchange as they cooked Nigeria’s traditional meal, Eba and Egusi Soup.
Sweet Adjeley, who doubles as a medical assistant, teamed up with Ify Mogekwu, who is also a practising lawyer, to create an unforgettable experience at the Best Western Plus Accra Beach Hotel.
While cooking, both food content creators spoke about the most challenging part of what they do; they mentioned social media abuse and critics. They face accusations of recipe theft by their individual fan bases and attacks from their countries.
Interestingly, Ify revealed that the backlashes from their respective fans triggered their first conversation to put their fans in check because it was affecting them and their brands.
Sweet Adjeley, on the other hand, expressed her dismay at the situation, saying, “It hurts; as a human being, if someone says something to you, the first thing that you feel is that hurt, and then you just talk yourself down.”
She stressed the fact that, instead of going back and forth with "haters,” she would rather educate them because recipes can be recycled.
For Ify, she sees the trolls and backlashes as helping her brand grow bigger, and so she treats them just as “water off her back. But not sidelining the fact that there are days where some comments really get personal that you cannot ignore.”
She prefers to delete and block the person so that she does not have time to dwell on it or be tempted to respond.
Ify Mogekwu advised people who are passionate about achieving a goal in life to develop thick skin and be able to make sacrifices because it is time-consuming.
Sweet Adjeley laid emphasis on how integrity is a really big thing to her and how it has earned her a lot of fans locally and internationally. She pleaded with her fellow culinary content creators and the upcoming ones to emulate integrity so that together they can grow the culinary industry.
Both influencers gushed about their stay at Best Western Plus Accra Beach Hotel, praising the ambience, the people, and the beach. Sweet Adjeley and Ify Mogekwu expressed their delight at the warm hospitality and serene environment that made their visit truly special. They highlighted how the combination of the hotel's beautiful location and the friendly staff created an experience, and appreciated the hotel's efforts in fostering a sense of unity and collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria.
