District Governor of D9104, Rotarian Florence Maame Hagan, has stressed the importance of commitment, integrity, and continuous learning among Rotarians.
Addressing club members during her official visit to the Rotary Club of Accra-East, she emphasised the dual obligations of attendance and financial contributions to both their local clubs and the Rotary Foundation.
“As Rotarians, we have obligations; we have attendance and financial obligations both to our clubs and to the Foundation. We must be impactful,” she advised.
She expressed her concern about fulfilling these obligations and the broader commitments that come with being a Rotarian.
“If we say we are Rotarians, we are telling the world that we are people of integrity, honest, law-abiding, we pay our dues on time, and we donate to the foundation,” she said on Thursday.
Madam Hagan noted that membership retention and adherence to Rotary principles were important to the club’s survival.
“If I have a worry, then it is Accra East not being able to live up to the commitment that we make when we are being inducted and when we put on the label. Another worry is that we might not be able to achieve the projects that we set for ourselves as a district.
“Another worry is that we will not increase our membership, that we will be complacent, that we will not abide by the Rotary rules, that we will not continue to learn," she listed.
She therefore urged members to contribute their quota and also utilise the Rotary Learning Center for their personal and the club’s development.
The District Governor also called for mutual respect and sincerity among Rotarians, ensuring they do not exploit each other.
“Also, thank you for nominating me and I promise to do my best in this role,” she pledged.
On her part, the President of the Accra East Rotary Club, Dorothy Ametefe assured Madam Hagan of the club’s unwavering support during her tenure as District Governor.
