The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, says the next NDC government will abolish the double-track system and enhance the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.
Speaking at the party’s campaign launch in Tamale, Mr. Mahama outlined plans to ensure all students attend school simultaneously without prolonged breaks.
He criticized the current system, which forces students to alternate between school and home for extended periods, and promised a more cohesive educational experience for all students.

“We are going to work hard to remove the obnoxious double-track system so that all our children can go to school at the same time and close at the same time. We don’t want a situation where our children will come home and stay for 4 months before they go to school,” he stated on Saturday, July 27.
He added, “We are going to sit with the teachers and parents and stakeholders and together, we will form an implementation plan that will make the free SHS better."
Regarding healthcare delivery, he noted that his government will uncap the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure patients receive better and more affordable treatment at health facilities.
He explained that the Akufo-Addo administration has capped the NHIS and diverted some of its funds into the Consolidated Fund.
This diversion, he said is causing financial strain on hospitals, leading to reluctance to provide services as their claims are not being refunded promptly.
