The Chief Executive of ElectroChem, Abdul Razak Adam, says the company has not violated anyone's rights.
According to him, the company has always respected the rights of the Songor people, but the indigenous people are those who have violated the rights of staff of the company.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on July 26, he said, “The human rights abuses are either caused by [Songor] and what have you, because they are attacking their own. Every employee of ElectroChem or most employees of ElectroChem they have gone [Songor], they have attacked them, brought their belongings and burnt them into ashes.”
He also accused members of the community of killing a member of the community and dragging his body into the concession site, claiming that the police shot the person on ElectroChem's site.
“Investigation indicated that even the dead body was dragged into the concession and you know why they did that, because in the 80s’s a similar incident happened and then the concession was closed completely, so that was exactly the intention,” he added.
In November 2023, one person died and several others were injured in a shooting incident.
