The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FC Samartex, Richard Nsenkyire, has called on President Akufo-Addo to back the team financially as they embark on their African journey.
Samartex are set to compete in the qualifiers for the 2024/25 CAF Champions League by virtue of winning last season's Ghana Premier League title.
The Timber giants beat Accra Lions to the league title to cement their place in Africa where they will face Victoria United from Cameroon in the first round of the preliminary stage of the competition.
Ahead of next month's encounter, the team paid a courtesy call to the President's office on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
“We want to seek your blessing by showing you the cup. Over the years, what we have realised is the teams that go to Africa lack financial support," said Mr Nsenkyire.
"They would have really done well or gone to the advanced stages but unfortunately, finances have become a problem and we are appealing to you that we are representing Ghana and we need your support Mr. President to make sure that we can excel in the CAF Championship, that is why we are here."
Samartex will be looking to reach the group stage of the competition as Medeama did last season and perhaps go a step further by playing in the knockout stages.
