A member of Ghana’s 4x100 men’s relay team, Joseph Paul Amoah says the aim of the group is to secure a medal at the Paris Olympic Games, due to start on 26 July 2024.
The team, currently ranked seventh in the world, consists of Ibrahim Fuseni, Isaac Botsio, Benjamin Azamati, Abdul Rasheed Saminu and Joseph Paul Amoah.
In an interview on JoySports Olympics Games preview show 'Gold Chase', team captain Joseph Paul Amoah discussed the team's strategy and aspirations.
“We are number seven in the world. What we actually talk about is not being complacent, going to the races. We just want to take it race by race. Being seventh in the world means on paper we should be able to make the finals because it's about eight or nine teams that go into the finals," he added.
Joe Paul, who anchored Ghana to the final of the last Olympics in Tokyo revealed the goal is to reach the final.
"We were in the finals in Tokyo. We want to go to the finals and then get something out of it. We want to get on the podium. So being number seven is something that we always talk about, but we are not satisfied.
“We want to make sure we go in there and try to come out with the ultimate. The ultimate is gold, but if we get silver or bronze, we’re still going to be happy with it.”
This marks the team’s second consecutive appearance at the Olympic Games, following their successful run in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where they advanced to the finals.
The track and field events are due to take place from 1 to 11 August 2024.
