The brother of the late Prof Atta Mills, Samuel Atta Mills has alleged that the group which clashed with them during the wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate 12 years since President Mills' passing was a "rented family."
He alleged that the dismissed deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, had bribed people with an amount of GH₵200 to show up at the premises.
In an interview on Joy FM’s Newsnight on Wednesday, July 24, Mr Atta Mills explained that this "rented family" had agreed on the schedule with the Atta Mills' family but was still at the premises when they arrived.
He noted that the overstaying was unfair to the real family and emphasised that the Atta-Mills family would take any necessary action—whether legal, spiritual, physical, or otherwise to stop Mr Anyidoho from overstepping.
His comment follows a disruption at the memorial service for the late President Prof John Evans Atta Mills at Asomdwee Park early on.
The confusion arose when Koku Anyidoho exceeded his allotted time, causing delays for a subsequent NDC event at the same venue.
Mr Atta-Mills blamed National Security for the misunderstanding at the wreath-laying ceremony.

He explained, "What they did was approve for Koku and the rented family to come in the morning and the NDC and the real family to also come there in the morning. The fake family was to come there from 6 am to 7 am and we would come from 7 am to set up and be ready from 9 am to 11 am. Now, the rented family did not start their programme on time."
He also dismissed claims that the group was from the former president’s maternal side, stating, "He [Koku Anyidoho] doesn’t know my family. He worked for my brother for only six years and he seems to know my family better than I do. My goodness."
