The National Youth Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has stated that former President John Mahama has been smeared with corruption, making his opponent, NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, stand out because he has no corruption tag on him.
According to Mustapha, having worked with Dr Bawumia, he can confidently say that the man has never been involved in any corrupt activity.
Therefore, he threw the challenge that anyone with evidence of corruption against Dr Bawumia must come forward with it.
Mustapha, who made these comments during the campaign tour of the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamud Bawumia in Wa said, the NDC cannot throw a similar challenge on President Mahama's behalf because he has a history of corruption.
"I am against corruption, and I am a firm advocate for the fight against corruption. I have worked with a man who is not corrupt, and that is why we have thrown the challenge that if anyone has any iota of truth that Dr Bawumia is involved in any corrupt activity, let them bring it. To date, of all the things they can say about Dr Bawumia, they can't say he is corrupt. That is his nature."
Regarding President John Mahama, Mustapha said the corruption tag is not a perception; and that there is proof.
"He is the first president with proof of corruption against him. The crown courts in London have implicated him in the Airbus scandal. He is super corrupt, fantastically corrupt, chronically corrupt, and overly corrupt. There is evidence of it against him."
Mustapha argued that if President Mahama is the alternative to Dr Bawumia, then Ghana is doomed. He also discredited recent polls conducted by UK-based Fitch Solutions, which put President Mahama ahead with 54%.
Mustapha said Fitch's report cannot be true because they derive their reports from Global Info Analytics, which has no credibility.
"It's a lie. We have checked with Fitch; they have not done anything. They picked data from Musa Dankwah, who has never done accurate research. As a researcher, I understand the tenets of research. To say the NDC will win with 99% in Oforikrom is out of place. I don't know which kind of research would bring this outcome" he stated.
Mustapha described the research report as preposterous and stated that the NDC doesn't have the numbers to win with 54%.
