Over 600 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have received a significant boost through the MTN Foundation Support Programme, which aims to support and enhance businesses in key sectors including agribusiness, manufacturing, information, and technology.
Most of these enterprises are led by young entrepreneurs, highlighting the program's focus on fostering innovation and youth empowerment.
The initiative saw an initial shortlist of 300 applicants who participated in a business pitching screening at the MTN regional office.
From these, 120 outstanding businesses were selected to receive up to GHC 20,000 financial support.
This rigorous selection process included pitching sessions evaluated by a panel of three distinguished female judges.
An advisor to the MTN Foundation, Cynthia Mills, expressed optimism about the impact of the support. "This initiative is designed to spur innovation and foster the development of potential industries within the country. By supporting these young entrepreneurs, we are investing in the future of our economy and society."
The program lead for Innohub, Juliet Dzasi, also highlighted the positive job prospects of the participating businesses.
"Many of the businesses in this region have shown significant growth, with a number registering more than ten employees. This not only demonstrates their potential for sustainability but also makes them attractive to the investor community," she said.
The MTN Foundation Support Programme continues to be a vital catalyst for economic development, providing crucial support to SMEs and empowering the next generation of business leaders in the country.
