The University of Ghana has unveiled a new five-year strategic plan designed to transform lives and societies through unparalleled scholarship, innovation, and result-oriented discoveries, aiming for a global impact.
The launch event occurred at the University’s Great Hall on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
The event was chaired by the former Chief Justice of Ghana and current University Council Chair, Justice (Retired) Sophia Akuffo.
Attendees included the Chancellor, Mary Chinnery-Hesse; Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo; and the Deputy Minister of Education, Rev John Ntim Fordjour.
This strategic direction, which will guide the University from 2024 to 2029, aims to reinforce the University’s commitment to excellence and global impact.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo highlighted the University's dedication to excellence across all operations and encouraged everyone to contribute to the plan's successful implementation.
“In the next five years, our new vision is to achieve global impact through innovative research, teaching, and learning, using a technology-driven and people-centered approach…The new strategic plan embodies our deep sense of purpose, shared vision and commitment to excellence across all University operations. We seek the concerted efforts of all stakeholders and partners for successful implementation,” she stated.
The strategic plan is anchored on five strategic priorities, which the Vice-Chancellor termed “5 for 5.”
These priorities are transformative student experience, impactful research, commitment to faculty and staff, engagement and partnerships, and sustainable research mobilization and stewardship.
To achieve the goals outlined in this strategic plan, the University has established an Inter-Collegiate Implementation Committee. This committee will spearhead the development of SMART action plans in all Colleges and Directorates, drive stakeholder engagement, mobilize and allocate resources, and track and monitor implementation.
Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, commended the University for the new strategic plan and assured government support.
“I want to commend the University for the foresight for the blueprint that in the next five years we maintain leadership not only in this country but on the continent as the preferred place for research…
"The Ministry of Education assures its support to the plan and running of the university in attaining its strategic objectives.”
In 2014, the University launched a ten-year strategic plan to consolidate its position as a world-class, research-intensive institution.
This new five-year plan builds on that foundation and aims to further elevate the University of Ghana’s global standing.
