President Akufo-Addo has unveiled plans for the establishment of four new universities to address the increasing demand for tertiary education.
He made this announcement when he received his fifth honorary doctorate from Valley View University, where he outlined his government's commitment to enhancing education quality and accessibility.
“Building on this legacy, my administration has continued to support the growth of private tertiary institutions,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
President Akufo-Addo outlined various interventions by his government aimed at improving the quality of education.
These initiatives include comprehensive teacher training programmes, curriculum enhancements, and the integration of digital tools to enrich teaching and learning experiences.
“The government has decided to establish four new universities in Mampong in the Ashanti region, Akrodie in the Bono region, Bunso in the Eastern Region and Kintampo in the Bono East region and expand facilities in the existing ones.”
According to the President, the aim is to increase tertiary enrollment to 40% by 2030, up from the current 18.84%.
He also highlighted efforts to achieve a balanced science-to-humanities enrollment ratio of 60:40, aligning with the country's educational strategic plan spanning from 2019 to 2020.
The president also called on citizens to reject any presidential aspirant who wants to review the Free Senior High School programme.
