Thirteen individuals have been arrested by the police for allegedly filling and illegally developing parts of the Laboma and Teshie Military shooting range, located within the Kpeshie Lagoon area in the La Dade-Kotopon municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
An inspection by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) revealed that significant portions of the Kpeshie Lagoon had been filled for development, with structures at various stages of construction.
Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, Chairman of the REGSEC, addressed journalists and assured them that unauthorized structures would be demolished in the coming days.
“They were picked up because we wanted to get the right people who own these structures. Some are ordinary workers; when you ask them, they will tell you that they were sent here to work."
“So, as we have picked them, they are in the hands of the police, and they will go through the process, and whoever asked them to come and work, they should be able to produce them. When they do, they will be given bail, and then the law will take its course,” he stated.
“This one is closer to the Kpeshie; we will pull it down. There is another on your left, and they are building at the edge of the Kpeshie, and we will pull that one down too. At the far end, close to the shooting range, it will also be pulled down."
“We invite everybody to come, and we want to know who sold the land to the people. Because my traditional leaders are telling me they have not sold the land to anybody."
