President Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Energy Minister.
The decision to resign, according to the Energy Minister in a letter dated 11th July 2024, is to allow him to concentrate on his new role as Vice-Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“I have come to the difficult decision to step down from my role to concentrate on the new role and honour bestowed on me,” he said in the resignation letter.

He continued, “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as both Minister for Education and Minister for Energy”.
In a response letter from the President, he said “In the circumstances, I accept your resignation as I know that you are going to play another vital role in the fortunes of our party, the New Patriotic Party”
.“I want to express my profound gratitude and appreciation for the exemplary work you have done in my government both as Minister for Education and Minister for Energy.”
“I wish you God’s blessings in all your future endeavours.”
